GoFundMe Launched for Half Moon Bay Victims by AAPI Organizations
SAN FRANCISCO — Stop AAPI Hate co-founding coalition member Chinese for Affirmative Action (CAA) today launched a GoFundMe campaign for those directly impacted by the mass shooting in Half Moon Bay this past week.
The “Half Moon Bay Victims Fund” will provide direct relief to the survivors and families of victims who have been affected by this tragic event, in which seven Asian and Latinx farmworkers lost their lives. It can be found at bit.ly/hmb-victims-fund and #HMBvictimsfund on social media.
"The tragedy in Half Moon Bay has devastated so many of us," said Cynthia Choi, co-executive director of Chinese for Affirmative Action and co-founder of Stop AAPI Hate. "As we continue to mourn, our most immediate concern is for the survivors, the families of victims, and the surrounding community. This campaign will provide direct relief to the impacted Asian, Latinx, and farmworker communities of Half Moon Bay, and while we cannot take away the pain of their loss, we hope this support will bring some sense of relief as they continue to heal, recover, and process.”
In addition to CAA and Stop AAPI Hate, the GoFundMe campaign is co-organized by the following AAPI organizations: Asian Law Caucus, Asian Pacific Fund, Community Youth Center of San Francisco, and The Asian American Foundation.
As the administrator of the “Half Moon Bay Victims Fund”, CAA will coordinate across co-organizing groups to deliver 100% of the donations received through the GoFundMe campaign to the victims and survivors of Half Moon Bay and their families.
In addition to the fundraiser, the Stop AAPI Hate coalition released a resource guide for impacted individuals in Half Moon Bay and throughout San Mateo County.
